Each year, tens of thousands of serious injuries and emergency room visits result from using lawn mowers, edgers and other lawn care equipment. It's not hard to see why: handling or pushing heavy machines with sharp cutting edges whirring at high speeds is inherently hazardous. According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (USCPSC), blades of rotary-type power lawn mowers revolve at speeds between 1800 and 3000 revolutions per minute. This means the cutting edge of a 20-inch blade is traveling at speeds between 100 and 190 miles per hour.
In fact, a recent USCPSC survey revealed that approximately two thirds of lawn mower injuries were caused by direct contact with mowers. The survey also revealed about 33% of the direct contact injuries were to toes and feet.
While no shoe can completely protect you from injury, LawnGrips footwear was designed to minimize the most common injuries by protecting the toe and forefoot areas.
A thick, molded rubber toe cap covers the toes and front 1/3 of the shoe, protecting the feet from minor impacts and abrasions. But the most critical safety feature of LawnGrips is the hard steel toe cap under the rubber. A steel dome covers the toes and protects them from all but the most severe impact. This is the very same protection system found in top-quality work boots used by construction workers and heavy machinery operators.
The outsole and upper is made with rugged, high-quality materials that will protect the wearer from thorns, sharp sticks and general abrasions that occur while performing most lawn maintenance activities.
